We are often one of the first ports of call for people from both outside the region and locally searching for property.
Meet The Team
David Rhys MRICS - (Managing Director)
Through living and selling locally for over 35 years, David has built up a wealth of experience that is rarely equalled. Qualifying as a chartered surveyor from the College of Estate Management in London, he moved to Devon in 1973 and soon became a Director of The Lester Smith Partnership. This company had one of the best reputations throughout the region, highlighted by the Bristol & West purchase in 1987.
David served five years as Director and Regional Manager before leaving to form David Rhys & Co in 1992. During this period, he became a founder member of the Ombudsman scheme and a recognised fellow of the National Association of Estate Agents.
In his spare time David participates in many local events, and in his earlier days raised a great deal for various charities through his marathon running, one of his great loves. He is now content with scenic walks, photography and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Sam Palfrey BA - (Residential Sales/ Senior Negotiator)
After his education at Exeter School and graduation from University in Wales, Sam returned to East Devon to begin his estate agency career in 2005. His fast track training and professional development within a large corporate firm proved successful, being offered a senior role within his first year. This gave rise to new challenges that furthered his skills, and focused his mind on the next step of his career. A year later, he was offered the opportunity to join David Rhys & Co and has never looked back since.
Sam has been at the forefront of the Residential Sales department, with some notable achievements along the way. He was chosen to appear for the BBC programme “ Homes Under The Hammer”, and was a consultant on the Channel 5 program “Living By The Sea”. He regularly contributes to articles in the national press, with his feature in The Sunday Times being a career highlight. In 2008, Sam completed his technical award with the highly respected National Association of Estate Agents, of which he is now a member.
His interests outside of work revolve mainly around sport, most notably hockey. He also takes great advantage of his proximity to the coast enjoying water-skiing and windsurfing whenever the weather allows.
Maxine Else - (New Homes/ Negotiator)
Maxine is the newest member of the David Rhys & Co team, joining the company back in 2010. Her experience of new home selling stretches over 15 years, and begun with the nationwide developer Crest Homes. Her ability was instantly recognised, soon establishing herself as a very successful negotiator, culminating in a number of awards for her area.
After starting a family, Maxine worked for Redrow Homes for seven years, transferring to the South West region when they moved to Devon. Having dealt with several New Build projects in Exeter city centre, Maxine was delighted to join David Rhys & Co. enabling her to work in Budleigh Salterton, where her and her family have lived for 10 years.
Outside of work she loves walking in the picturesque East Devon Countryside and enjoying all that Budleigh Salterton has to offer.
Stephen Yarnall - (Residential Lettings/ Negotiator)
Having responsibility for the rapidly growing rental department of David Rhys & Co, Stephen’s business background in international marketing and running his own businesses has been exceedingly useful.
His philosophy has always been that service to clients is paramount, and that undue pressures are not used to gain short-term advantages. Hence, Stephen has already established a superb portfolio of retained clients that trust him time and time again on their behalf.
Out of office hours Stephen is a keen tennis player and golfer as well as an amateur thespian with credits that include 28 performances with the RSC at Stratford.
